Policy 3: Little League Team Selection

The purpose of this document is to clearly define guidelines that will be used when selecting players for the various Little League levels and teams. This policy applied to regular season play only.  

  1. Little League Definitions
    1. Northwest Little League (NWLL)
    2. Franklin Little League (FLL)
    3. Little League Levels: There are four levels of Little League play overseen by the Franklin Recreation Department.
      1. Major League: Major League is defined a
      2. Minor League
      3. Farm League
      4. Tee Ball
    4. League Age: league age is defined by Little League International and can be determined using charts or a calculator found here: https://www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/determine-league-age/
    5. Regular Season: regular season play is defined as the season during which all interested players are placed on a team and play games. The regular season typically begins in March or April and concludes in June.  
    6. Evaluations: Northwest Little League (NWLL) hosts annual evaluations for players who are league age 8 and above. 
      1. Evaluation dates will be selected and advertised by the NWLL board.  Franklin Recreation will advertise the dates via their facebook page and email. 
      2. Participation in these evaluations is voluntary, however it is suggested that all eligible players attend.  
  2. Team/Player Guidelines
    1. Team Selection
      1. The Franklin Recreation Department is responsible for selecting players for regular season play of Franklin Little League.  Teams will be primarily selected based on the grade of the player as follows
        1. Major League: Grades 5 and 6
        2. Minor League: Grades 3 and 4
        3. Farm League: Grades 1 and 2
        4. Tee Ball: Kindergarten and younger
      2. In some instances, there will not be enough players in the grade levels listed above to form complete teams (9 players minimum). In these instances, younger players may be asked to play at the next level.  The following guidelines will be used to select players who can safely play at the next level. League age older
